Peter John Creed – Légion d’Honneur

Regiment – Gloucestershire, South Staffordshire, Suffolk

Peter was awarded some war medals and the Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur

Peter joined the Army in July 1943 and served briefly with the Gloucestershire Regiment before joining the South Staffordshire Regiment and then the Suffolk Regiment.

He arrived in Normandy about a month after D-Day. As a rifleman on Operation Overlord he was involved in a number of skirmishes. As his regiment pushed on towards Germany, he had a close shave in which some shrapnel hit his back. He had to spend fourteen days in hospital before returning to his unit and staying with them until the end of the war.
