John Clifford Brodie – Légion d’Honneur

1927 – 2007

Enlisted in the Royal Navy 1941….. aged 15 !! Service number DJX 574849

John served on HMS Lennox, Fleet Algerine Class Mine Sweeper, as Leading Telegraphist RN.

Leaving Southampton to sweep the channel and the Normandy coast the days before the Normandy landings in the most terrible weather, also assisting in the landings. HMS Lennox was eventually sent to relieve Singapore and to Burma.

Besides all John’s service medals he was awarded the Legion d’Honneur, June 2004 in Normandy.

John didn’t talk in detail of his experience like many other veterans, but he was proud to be a member of the Bristol Branch.
