Albert’s basic training was with the Gloucester Regiment and from there he served with the REME for the rest of this military service.   The six months leading up to D-Day, he drove Military vehicles and equipment all over southern England.   He arrived at the Normandy beach a few days after the initial assault, from his memory he could still see many bodies in the water and on the beaches from where they fell.  One of his regiments jobs was behind the front lines collecting and capturing the German stragglers, and also repairing military vehicles if possible.

Albert’s military service came to an end in 1946, when he arrived home.
