Ken, born Bristol November 1919, was in Canada at outbreak of war. Joining the Cameron Highlanders, he became a qualified Driver, Wireless Operator and Regimental Signaller.
Part of ‘D’ Company, their heavy mortars could not land on Juno Beach until 10th June 1944. They supported 7th Brigade liberating Caens 10th July after 30 days of fighting.
Advancing through Northern France & Belgium they reached Nijmagen, Holland in November. Fighting in winter through the German Reichswald forest they captured Cleve and Goch. Wounded on 15th April, Ken remained on duty refusing any mention in dispatches. They were about to take Aurich when ceasefire was declared 4th May. Ken’s war was over.
