Ron joined the RAF Regiment in August 1942 aged 18. He completed his training at Blackpool and Isle of Man.
Ron was posted to 2728 Squadron Anti-Aircraft Unit at Gravesend, later to Dover, on defence duties.
He was transferred to 2734 Squadron in 1943 on anti-aircraft guns at Headcorn, then to Hunsdon to Inveraray on barge landing to Filey for BOFOR ACK.ACK (guns) Course.
Hibaldstow, Hunsdown, Honiley, Odiham, Old Sarum, Fareham, Gosport – gun loaded.
Onto barge and sailed at 1800 hours on the 15th June. Landing on Juno beach 1500 hours on the 16th June. Positioned at Plumetol ACK.ACK duties in forward airstrips, carried on these duties into Germany. Moved from Plumetol to Roen to Hasselt Belle to Volitel, Heesch, Wunstorf, Nuemunster.
Returned to UK July 1945 to Canterbury.
From Liverpool he sailed to India in November 1945.
Bombay to Karachi Calcutta (Riot duties), Bombay, Southampton, returning to the UK for Demob March in 1947.
