Herbie Fussell left from Aldermaston and landed in Normandy on the 6 th June 1944. It was 12:08 in the morning, and he had landed off course and in pitch black. He came under heavy fire from the tower at the Ranville Churchyard where there were many losses.

Herbie’s aim was to secure the drop zone for the main para force to come in later. Herbie and the team managed to secure the area before making their way through open countryside to Pegasus Bridge which was captured soon after.
